| Pics from Halloween Party... the Happy Triad went as "Fallen Angels"- hence the wings (kinda hard to see in pics actually) and the all black (scanty) attire...

Oompa Loopas- oh but you guys missed the dancing and singing (and hip thrusting)

"Rock out with your cock out"- his words, not mine

Best couple- Mario & Luigi

This is my roomate sucking BEER of of a TEAT of a cow costume worn by a friend of ours. Sigh- and they say you can't have any fun in medical school. |

| OMG so I got my hospital bill for the first 4 days I was in the hospital (i.e. excluding when I went back to the ER Sunday night) and guess how much the bill is??? $12,593!!! I was like WTF I wasn't THAT SICK! So the room charge for the 4 night stay was around $1800- that's $450 a night- what is this, the freakin Four Seasons? But that's not what kills me- the largest charge on there was a $8000 pharmacy charge so apparently, I got a lot more IV morphine than I thought. Anyhoo, this just makes me think about all those poor people who don't have insurance- what the hell would they do? (Well the hospital prolly would have kicked them out after 2 days, regardless of excrutiating pain). Anyway, now I'm really motivated to get involved in those medical student groups that advocate for patients and insurance and stuff. I mean, the US is the only industrialized country in the world where not everyone has access to health care- you'd think it'd be a little higher on the list of priorities our govt has, but apparently, getting into other people's business and bombing people and racking up more debt is more important. Hmphhhh. Anyway, if I wasn't so freaking behind in school and scrambling to catch up, I'd ramble more but let's just say I hope you guys all have good insurance (and hope that you'll never actually NEED it!). |

| Yay I'm finally LEGAL! Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy 21st! But I must warn you all that I haven't actually celebrated yet and will be requesting your attendance at a big bruhaha very shortly. Here's why:
I actually spent the entire week in the hospital with viral meningitis doped up on lots of morphine, steroids, and IV antibiotics... I didn't really get to celebrate so hopefully after I recover some more, I'll take a raincheck on all those shots and birthday hugs I should have gotten. Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who called all week to check up on me, and to my friends who came to visit even though I was a big grouch, and for everyone who had me in their prayers. This sounds silly, but at one point I didn't think I was going to make it because I remembered in college a girl that died of meningitis suddenly and I thought "What if this is it for me?" Ahhh, such silly thoughts from a girl on morphine. Anyway, I will spare y'all the medical details, but I'm on my way to a full recovery now (hopefully no permanent damage) and I just wanted to let everyone know to please please appreciate everything you have and tell everyone in your life how much they mean to you and how much you love them- don't let things go by and wait for a life changing experience like this to give you a slap in the face and realize how lucky you are. Again, thank you so much to all those who called/emailed/came to see me- I don't know how I would have made it without you guys. |
